2008 Salute to Youth Leadership Benefit & Auction

PROCEEDS

AWARD WINNERS

Sydnee Kirvin
Volunteer Honoree

Syndee Kirvin is a freshman at the University of California - Berkeley majoring in international business. She is a graduate of View Park Prep High School in Los Angeles and has volunteered more than 50 hours to support the Tavis Smiley Foundation’s Youth to Leaders program in 2008.


Angela Groves
Youth in Action Honoree

Angela Groves is a freshman at Princeton University. As a senior at Hathaway Brown School, Angela served as student body president. Inspired by the Covenant with Black America, she founded the Youth Covenant Committee for African American high school students from the Cleveland, Ohio area.


Anthony A. Phillips
Emerging Youth Leader Honoree

Anthony A. Phillips is the executive vice-president of Youth Action, a non-profit community founded to empower African Americans teens to become aware of social and economic issues in Philadelphia. He is attending Bates College pursing degrees in African American studies and philosophy.


Jurnee Smollet
Youth Advocate Honoree

Actress and activist Jurnee Smollett is the youngest board member of Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), a nonprofit organization working in the U.S. and South Africa to combat HIV/AIDS, advance human rights and equality, safeguard voting rights, and assist, educate and empower children orphaned by AIDS as well as other at-risk youth.
